Painting the
world in water
& light

Each painting is a quiet meditation — pigment meeting water, colours blooming unpredictably across damp paper. An honest conversation between intention and chance.

Drawn to
fleeting light

I've been painting in watercolour for a few years, finding endless fascination in the medium's unpredictability. I live in the Midlands, England and love sky watching, drawn by the luminous quality of British light. I have enjoyed time in the Scottish Highlands where there is endless inspiration of moody landscapes.

I work primarily on cold-pressed paper , particularly Saunders Waterford and Arches, building luminosity through layered washes. I love experimenting with different brands of paints learning how differently pigments behave. Currently I am enjoying Maimeri and Schmincke paints .

The process

01
Observation

Every painting begins with time spent simply looking — watching how light moves, how colour shifts, how a landscape breathes.

02
Sketching

Loose pencil marks to place the composition. Nothing rigid — just enough structure to guide the first wash.

03
Wet on Wet

The paper is dampened and the first colours are laid in freely, dancing and merging. This is where the magic — and the uncertainty — lives.

04
Refinement

Once dry, darker tones and details are added in layers. Knowing when to stop is the hardest and most important skill.
